Tell us about your speaking experiences - formal and informal. Have you ever given a formal speech? How about just and informal one, such as at a birthday party or at a Thanksgiving dinner?
I don't have very much speaking experience, hence why I'm taking speech class. I have given reports and speeches in some of my classes, but not much more than that. I'm a pretty outgoing person though, so I don't think I'll have that much difficulty with public speaking. I think the hardest part will actually be writing the speeches themselves, not so much speaking in front of the class. I'm comfortable talking to most of the people in our class anyway, so I don't think it will be an issue.
I think I have experience in public speaking/speaking in front of an audience, but I don't think I have ever given an actual speech before. I have had to present many projects and presentations in front of people and talk about them, and some of them required a short speech. However, I think all my speech experience is contained in a classroom setting; outside of school, I am disinclined to talk in front of people. I attribute this to being uncomfortable speaking to people I do not know. However, I think I will enjoy this class, as it will better my ability to be less shy and nervous while giving a speech to unfamiliar people.
I would not go so far as to say that I have any experience in public speaking. I avoid it whenever possible. However, as I plan to go into communications, I thought that it would be beneficial to become more comfortable speaking in public. In general, I prefer to talk to one person at a time. I do occasionally give presentations in class. While it is not horrific, it is not pretty, either.
I don't actually like giving speeches. Once in eighth grade, Miranda and I had to give a short speech in front of our entire school on Veteran's Day. I almost choked. That's about it.
The only actual speech experience(s) that I remember took place during my freshman year in creative writing class. We were required to read select things that we had written, whether they be poems, stories, etc. Besides that, the only times I give "speeches" are when I am told to, particularly in school. Talking in front of a group probably isn't anybody's favorite thing to do, but it doesn't bother me very much.
SirDorian- Myself, does have alot of exsperience with giving speeches in fronte of people. Alot of people do not feel comfortable doing this but i am extremely. I love to talk to a large group of people. I try and spice things up alot during it to. Like to throw in some curve balls and keep people on their tippi toes if you know what i mean. You have to have alot of different tones and facial exspressions. No one wants to listen to some body give this long speech and not have fun with it. I mean come on peeps.
I myself do not feel comfortable giving speeches even though I have done a few. As Michele had mentioned, I have gave a speech in front of the whole school about our art project with 9/11. I was really nerves but pulled threw. Another one was in 9th grade I had to give a speech to a 4th grade class which was not as scary to me as giving one to the whole school with friends watching. I am hoping this class will help me overcome my fear with giving a speech.
I can't recall ever giving a formal speech, but I have spoken in front of a group of people. For example while Mrs. Headrick was gone for a week I did most of the teaching and talking in journalism. Also in government and other classes I’ve had to talk about various things for projects. In this class I mainly hope to improve my public speaking skills and speech skills, considering I want to pursue a career as a journalist and ultimately go into the broadcasting field.
I have never had to give a speech publicly before. However, i have given my fair share of speeches in the classroom. Usually my speeches deal with projects that i have done. Last semester i gave multiple speeches in my A.P. government class. Each speech i gave was usually backed up by a powerpoint with my key points on it. The only other place i have given a speech was for sporting events. Being a senior this year i gave quite a few speeches for pre-game in order to pump up the rest of my team.
i gave a speech at one of the pep assemblys before.. then just through out my classes here and there.. Then during football season i was known for my speeches
i couldnt get this to work so this is my fourth time typing this. the one before was a test. My experience is not great with speeches. back in middle school, when i was in the eighth grade i did a how to speech of course on food! I did a speech on how to make dirt pudding. Another time I had to talk, not made a speech but talked in front of a group was when i had to do my final project in governmeny. I am sure that I made many facial expressions while I was talking but they were certainly not good ones. I dislike the setup of bloging sooo much it is bush league!! the end
Before this year, I wouldn't say I've had much speaking experience. However, in the past few months I feel like I've been speaking more and more in public. It started off with speaking in front of our Tallmadge Young Republicans group. It then moved to the 2008 Election Debate that was held in the auditorium. It was fun to have a chance to debate in front of the whole school. That is the gist of my major speaking experience.

ReplyDeleteMy speaking experiences are quite limited. I have given speeches at church a few times for a variety of different charity purposes.

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say I have much speech-giving experience at all. I've given a few presentations at school, but that's about it.
